Spam Monkey

Why does my spam blocking not work?

I removed all blocked messages because it was full (500) intending to start over. But now, when I mark something as spam it is not added to the blocked addresses and I am getting spam all over the place. Help.

  1. i dont know.
  2. They always find a way...
  3. check your internet settings
  4. Did you know that Spam spelled backwards is Maps? Maps are good. They keep you from getting lost. Try blocking the domain.
  5. Go to http://antispam.yahoo.com/ to better understand how the spam protection works. You need to set spamguard on to sideline the junk to the bulk folder where you can just ignore it until Yahoo gets a false positive and sidelines a message you want. You do not need to keep checking the bulk folder. If a "missing" message is important, the sender will let you know by other means. Now, look at the blocked sender list. It is probably full. Most will never send to you ever again as the spammers spoof new sender email addresses for each message. So, you can remove them. However, some spammers are really stupid and use the same domains. Ask yourself, do I ever expect to receive a legit email from someone with a country specific email address. If not, then you can block com.<country code> in your list. Unfortunately, you cannot do the same for all countries as Yahoo insists on <something> dot <something> and some countries do not use the com/org/mil/etc structures.)
  6. When Yahoo updated the original mail page---they changed that action. Clicking the spam tab,(on inbox messages) no longer deletes that mail, NOR does it block the sender. It sends it to the spam folder and future mails from that address will also go to spam folder. I think they probably made this change cause sending "spam" addresses to the blocked list was never very effective anyway---since spammers change their address with each mailing, and slip past any blocking. OF course. you can still manually block addresses. (mail page--options--block addresses) AND---Yahoo still deletes the spam folder at preset times----And, you still have the ability to open emails, in it, and click the "not spam" tab. If you wanted---you could change the spam setting to delete immediately, anything arriving in the spam folder (you'll never see any of them). Mail page>>options>>mail options>>Spam Protection. Make the adjustment as you like, and then click "save changes".
